Architecture of the Picturesque in Canada

This study by Janet Wright is one of a series of studies that was prepared by Parks Canada on various architectural styles and tastes that have influenced Canadian building of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It was published in 1984.

  •  The Canadian Lighthouse. Canadian Historic Sites:  by Edward F. Bush. This study traces the evolution of the Canadian lighthouse from the first structure at Louisbourg to the latest developments in lighthouse design and technology within the past decade. The treatment is regional, with emphasis on the older extant structures. An appendix lists data on individual lighthouses within regional agencies.
  • Halifax Waterfront Buildings: An Historical Report, by Susan Buggey – The study attempts to explain and document
    the historical role and associations of a complex of 19th-century Halifax waterfront buildings – in the Area now known as Historic Properties. It undertakes as well to distinguish their architectural features and structural alterations.
